RIDE REPORT SUNDAY
21st MARCH
On Sunday the 21st of March we set off with 7 bikes for our ride to
Foster. Chris as Ride Leader and Alan Hipworth as tailend Charlie.
The weather didn’t look
that crash hot, so Dawn and I put on our wet weather gear. (This was
not needed.)
We went via Tooradin, Lang Lang and Poowong.
As we approached Poowong, one of our favourite roads, Bob Froling
felt a severe chest pain. The pain struck and Bob stuck with it as
we cruised through Poowong. But about 4 ks out of town (about 6-8
mins after it first struck), the pain became too much and Bob pulled
over. He was very pale, disoriented and on the verge of fainting.
After settling him down, calling the ambulance, getting Bob to lie
back and relax, the ride continued as it was too risky to have so
many bikes on a dangerous corner , leaving Peter Baulch (with mobile
phone and bike radio) to coordinate Bob's wellbeing.
Ambulance (in fact 2 of them) arrived about 20 mins apart. Bob was
immediately in good hands, and eventually (after a number of
important tests) was en-route to Korumburra Hospital for further
tests and observation. But not before a phone call to his wife
Jeanette to advice of his situation.
Baulchy then called the ever helpful Bartons, only to discover that
Bill was away for the day, but that didn't stop Chris Barton from
volunteering to leave her shopping at the Frankston Market, go home,
hook up the trailer and drive to Poowong to pick up his bike and
transport Bob's bike back to Baxter safely. Hooray for Chris
Barton............. what a champion.
We continued our ride to Yarragon where we had morning tea, and also
met up with Kevin. Then we continued our ride through
Thorpdale, Mirboo Nth, Dumbalk and had lunch in Foster. It looked
very dark, but no rain. After lunch we slowly made our way home via
Fishcreek, Leongatha, Korumburra and Lock. We stopped at Tooradin
for another coffee and a chat, before saying our goodbyes
.
Thanks to Chris Dyball for a great ride and also to our tailend
Charlie, Alan.
A special thank you is in order to Chris for helping me getting my
confidence back.
That is very much appreciated.
