PINK RIBBON RIDE - Sun 25th
October '09
There are no rides more
deserving of our support than the Annual Pink Ribbon Ride. This year
Baxter was again a Registration and Departure point, with Ride
Coordinator (and Ride Leader) Chris Dyball taking registrations from
over 19 riders and one pillion before we all departed a tick
after 9-30 am.
With the Monash Freeway
being a bit dodgy due to roadwork's and resurfacing, Chris wisely
chose a route that took us along Moorooduc Hwy, Frankston Fwy, then
Nepean Hwy and eventually Beach Rd all the way to Port Melbourne,
and onto Westgate Fwy and out to our destination at Point Cook,
arriving about 11-00 am.
Here we linked up with
riders from all points of the compass and from all different
Motorcycle Clubs. Hundreds of bikes, riders and pillions took in the
Sausage Sizzle and the many stalls selling all sorts of stuff for
bikers and for fundraising for Breast Cancer. Organisers had
arranged for parking right in the heart of the Shopping Centre, and
also for a live band to provide music.
After the mandatory
wander through the bikes, trikes and the like, riders eventually
headed for home at their leisure.
All agreed that it was a
well organised ride for a most deserving cause.
A small group of four
from Two Bays decided to take a bit of a roundabout ride, and
headed off for the first stop at Whittlesea for refuelling. Then it
was off to Kinglake for a very welcome coffee and some respite from
a strong and gusty wind. On the road again via Toolangi and Chum
Creek and on to Healesville for a "pit" stop and off again via Woori
Yallock, Cockatoo, Berwick and back to where we had started at
Baxter. A very pleasant and enjoyable ride to cap off a good day.
With the weather looking dull and overcast, as was forecast19 bike riders assembled at the Baxter Coffee Shop, where Chris and Fay took the money and handed out the stickers for the Pink Ribbon Ride. This is a ride that motorcycle riders do, as they’re way of helping the women’s Brest Cancer appeal. This year it was held in Point Cook, with riders leaving from 9 different places, (Ballarat, Baxter, Bendigo, Brighton, Ferntree Gully, Geelong, Lyndhurst, Melbourne and Whittlesea.) After the signing of the forms Chris gave a speech explaining to everyone the way that we would be going because of the road works being done this weekend, then we road off led by Chris with Fay as pillion passenger with the orange Ulysses Safety Vest on.The ride was very good although a bit slow in some places, because of traffic and the way in which we had to travel. We all arrived safely and went for a look around at the different bikes and things set up in the streets. It was held in the Point Cook Main shopping centre. After looking around and site seeing we made our own way back home.Thank you Chris for the ride. Doug.
