Warburton Ride - Sun 29th
Nov.
After having rained most of the night, we were greeted with cloudy skies, damp roads, and the forecast of more scattered showers during the day. It was on that basis that our esteemed El Presidente decided not to lead today's ride which had been postponed from last weekend. However six intrepid riders suffering withdrawal symptoms, decided to make a go of it. Ron Olsson led us away on a route that worked out to be Tiny's planned ride in reverse. So after travelling through Five Ways, Cardinia, Pakenham and Yellingbo, we made a welcome stop for Coffee at Woori Yallock. With roads dry and high cloud we were confident that perhaps the rain would stay away. On through Launching Place, Yarra Junction and then to Warburton. Here Peter Baulch briefly took the lead to take us all to the amazing place called "Boingaolgy Headquarters - South Ambrosia". As always, particularly for the first timers, this place just has to be seen to be believed. Rex reckons he nearly fell off his bike when he first laid eyes on the place. (see photos). After the obligatory photo shoot, we all set off again destined for Reefton Pub where a very enjoyable lunch break was had. As usual, the area was a hive of activity with lots of dirt bikes taking advantage of the conditions, including one young guy on a mini-Suzuki dirt bike. He rode like a veteran with all the confidence in the world. His age....... 6 yrs old..!!!!. Back through Warburton for a fuel pit stop, then on through Yarra Junction, Powelltown and Noojee. It was here that Ron decided to take a bit of a reconnaissance run for the forthcoming Baw Baw ride as we all headed half way up the mountain. At this point it was realised that we needed to back-track and headed for Neerim and on towards Drouin, when the weather forecast at last proved to be correct with one almighty downpour lasting at least half an hour. This was extremely heavy rain, reducing visibility significantly and speed accordingly. Fortunately all riders (except the one on a cruiser) had anticipated the worst and all were in full wet-weather gear to withstand the deluge. The rain eventually eased off as we arrived in Drouin for a welcome coffee break, and the mandatory round of funny stories. On the road again heading for home via Lang Lang, Tooradin, Baxter and eventually home. All 6 agreed that despite the downpour during the afternoon, it had again been one of those rides that you were really glad to be on. Sometimes you just don't know what you have missed if you aren't there............!!!! Thanks a million to Ron Olsson for stepping in at short notice to lead this most enjoyable ride, and also to Brian Burling and Gary Disher for sharing the tail-end Charlie responsibilities. Once again, the new "Bike-to-Bike" radios proved to be a valuable asset and an added safety factor to the ride. Another very satisfied Two-Bays Rider
Tiny’s Magical Mystery Tour to Warburton: Sunday 22 November 2009
On a wet and dismal Sunday morning at 9am ride leader Tiny met Mark at the Baxter coffee shop. Soon we were joined by Ron Olsson and Peter Baulch we all had a nice hot coffee. We moved to the corner where some puzzles were . Where Pete attempted his hand at colouring and Mark played with the cards. Pete got into trouble because he could not colour inside the lines Ha Ha. We were soon joined by Bill & Chris who came to do some shopping. A laugh and joke then at about 10 we all got back into our CARS and went home!!! Hopefully to meet up again next Sunday when the ride will take place, weather permitting. Regards Mark.
