18th Jan 2012

Attached is a pic taken yesterday 18th on our Wednesday ride. Chris Dyball brought along two mini 'birthday cakes' with sparklers, one each for Frank and Alan whose birthdays were/are this week.
We had a great ride led by Chris - Yarra Junction for morning tea (where the pic was taken), Donna Buang, Healesville for lunch, and Berwick for ice cream :). Tail-end Charlie was shared by the birthday boys-thanks guys. A magic day.
Cheers, Sandra

21 Dec 2011

Wednesday 21st December

Well this was probably the last ride of the year and a great time was had by all.
About 14 'riders' left Baxter the official start venue at 9.30 sharp led by
Frank Ibbot, the skies were threatening but to no avail .Morning tea-coffee-cakes-
sandwich-toasted or untoasted was taken at Cosy Kitchen Loch. From here on
the ride took on a very interesting angle as those of you that have been on one
of Franks or Bills or come to that matter any of the Wednesday rides can vouch
for. Saw a few places that were familiar but when your trying to keep Frank in
your sights looking around at the view is not conducive to safety. Finally ending up at
Tarwin Lower beside the river for lunch for those that haven't been there it's the other
side of Inverloch. Leaving Tarwin Lower for the homeward leg of the journey we
were led up what can only be describe as 'goat tracks' but once again just brilliant
scenery we could see it this time as the pace was more to the pace of the said goats.
Anyway we eventually ended up on some roads that some of us recognised [for a
short time] finally culminating at Tooradin for farewells etc.
Great ride Frank and thanks to Chris Dyball for Tailending.

7th Dec 2011

Wednesday was a great day for a ride as was evidenced by the good turn out at the Baxter coffee shop. There were 15 bikes raring to go on the day's excursion. Chris Dyball was nominated ride leader and Bill Barton volunteered as tail-end Charlie. Our destination was Trafalgar for morning tea followed by lunch at Mirboo North.

As by decree, we set off in singular formation towards Tooradin then turned left through Koo Wee Rup, passing the small towns of Modella, Ellinbank and Yarragon. The day was a warm 25 degrees with little wind. The roads were a good mixture of tree-lined sweeping bends interspersed by straight stretches. Chris knew exactly where the good-riding roads were.

We arrived at Trafalgar just before 11am where we stopped for a snack, a drink and a breather. Shady spots were welcomed as was the coffee and cake. Within twenty minutes were were once again geared up and off along the back roads.

Never let it be said that the shortest route is the most direct. We are, after all, looking to ride the most scenic and recreational roads Gippsland has to offer.

We rode through Mirboo North, exited and did a great loop around the southern outskirts of the district, returning for our lunch break some fifteen minutes later. Having spread our lunch money throughout the town shops, we resumed our ride, this time towards home. Bill Barton took over as ride leader whilst Garry Disher took last spot.

It was 'B' and 'C' grade roads again taking us through hill and dale, past quaint farms and small streams until we reached Leongatha. Soon we went past Korumburra, Poowong, Lang Lang and back to the South Gippsland Highway were all parted company heading home. A delightful day enjoyed by all those who attended. I commend Wednesday rides to all those who enjoy good company and the thrill of a good day's riding.

On Wednesday 26th Oct, around 14 members arrived at Baxter for a coffee and a chat. Of that group nine went for a bike ride on what turned out to be a magnificent day.
We arrived at Beaconsfield for morning tea at the local bakery. Three riders decided to go their own way while the remaining six took to the road towards Gembrook then onto Yarra Junction before taking the beautifully winding road through Powelltown to Noojee.

Most of the ride was uneventful except for a minor mishap when one rider hit a large pot-hole, resulting in the dislodgement of both mirrors from his Honda. We all stopped by the side of the road recovering bits of plastic. Fortunately, the damage was minor and the parts were reassembled during lunch.

The accompanying photos were taken whilst we were having a one hour lunch break.
The scenic return trip was via Jindivick, Drouin, Lang Lang and then back to Baxter. The whole day was most relaxing with the sun taking the temperature to the low 20's. No wind, no rain, just a magic day.

August 31st

The ride was led by Michael, who took ten of us through to the Dandenongs for morning tea, then along to Warrandyte and onto Arthur's Creek for a quick pit stop. Refreshed we then took off over hill and dale to St Andrews for lunch, only to find out that the bakery was closed.

Michael used his GPS to suss out a short cut to Yarra Glen via Dixons Creek, where we stopped for lunch. The photos were taken at Yarra Glen. Having had a good half hour break, it was a relaxed ride back home.

Great ride enjoyed by all.

Wed.6 July.

Very inclement weather so you think, No ride ? No fear after a few phone calls Frank Ibbott had organized Bob Russell, Chris Dyball and myself to go for a ride to the motor show. We 4 met at Kannanook station and yes we boarded a TRAIN!
Had a most enjoyable ride and could chat without a radio intercom. First off coffee on Southbank then into Jeff's shed where we spent a couple of hours looking at old cars first, then we picked our favourites from the new ones.
Back to Southbank for lunch then a short walk back to Flinders Street station and again said let the train driver do all the driving for us.
Went home from Kannanook station and we had a most interesting day without getting wet and saved heaps on petrol.
Yes!! We all travelled on cheap Senior tickets. The second photo was my favourite model.
Who says you cant have fun without a motorbike.........
Yours truly Jack Froling

Well he as done it again, Mike has found some more roads that I feel sure we hadn’t been on before and what great scenery as well.

Eleven bikes in all turned up for what can only be described as brilliant day weather wise [spring has finally arrived].

We some times take for granted the area in which we reside  and it is great to get with people that know their way

around as Mike obviously does to remind us. To go from Baxter via Korumburra, Leongatha to Trafalgar takes some doing especially without

using major roads and then on to Bayles via places like Brandy Creek, Labertouche  was truly a remarkable day.

Thanks again to all three ride leaders and the Tail ender for a wonderful day although I think one of the leaders didn’t realize he

was a leader until he noticed no one in front of him.

Ride report from Alan Lindley

Wed 28th July.

Finally! A nice winter’s day for a ride. (I noted that Keith had a QLD number plate on his Trumpy and wondered what the ……. is he doing here in the middle of our Victorian winter. I guess it must be our motorcycle friendly roads). With a good attendance we were all glad to be on our bikes after the cold weather, but living in Victoria is all about seasons and we were keen to get some good twisty roads happening. Great to have Frank Ibbot along too, as his health has seen him off the bike for a while.

It was decided we should head for Lock for morning tea. Bill rang the Baron who was on his way from Pakenham and arranged to meet him with the group at Tooradin and before we knew it we were all seated for a round table talk at the Lock café. The two for one deal on the hot scones and strawberry jam with cream were very popular. It was then decided to have a look at the suspension bridge & ANZAC memorial park which was well worth it, the Lock community should be congratulated for their community spirit. I can’t believe most of us didn’t know it existed until Bob Froling showed it to us. Laurie suggested we could ride the bikes over it but not being the Evil Knievel types we reneged. I think Laurie was confusing it with the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I would love to have seen Laurie on the back wheel of the big Suzi, front wheel up in the air heading downhill, over the bridge. YEEEHAAAA. Sorry Laurie, just a vision I had for a moment.

From Loch it was on through the beautiful rolling green hills, rising up to view the wind farms and the coast line towards Wonthaggi. Then onto the mini Great Ocean Road of Cape Patterson, a great twisty road along the coast. Unfortunately we did pass a few dead wombats but luckily there were no koalas scampering along the road like earlier in the summer months when Peter Baulch had to help one off the road and back up a tree out of danger from traffic. We followed this road into Inverloch where we stopped for lunch and then returned via the Cape road again to Wonthaggi, Dudley, Glen Alvie and Nyora saying our goodbyes at Tooradin.

Thanks to ride leader Bill Barton and Tale end Charlie Graham Goodman and to all riders for a safe and enjoyable days ride.

It was one of those mornings that when you wake up you are trying to
decide if you should get up and go on a ride or to roll over and stay in bed
well the latter was the option that I should have taken 'cos no one wanted
to play'. Any way there I am seating at the bakery looking all lost and
forlorn when Jack turned up closely followed by Bill in their cars they were
on their way to see Frank their comments were along the lines of 'you must
be bl#*dy mad'. Not one to be put off I decided to take a little excursion on
my own if for no other reason than to wear in my new tyres. Great time was
had by me, myself and I look forward to the next time I can get together
again....Alan Lindley

WEDNESDAY 23rd June 2010.

Ride Leader Barry Jackson.

Tail end Charlie Jack Froling.

Nine ‘motorcycle riders’ set out from Baxter on a slightly chilly but bright morning towards Gippsland on Barry’s last ride before he heads over seas for a couple of months. There has been a lot of talk lately about the amount of Honda S.Ts we have in the club well for once we were out numbered by B.M.W  G.Ss with Bob Russell being the latest person to succumb to the B.M.W marque [oh well them's the breaks] .Morning tea was had at Loch and was enjoyed by all before it was off again taking a few back roads to Inverloch that I hadn’t been on before but will certainly store in the memory bank. After every one finished lunch we were told that it would be a leisurely ride back to Tooradin I guess we forgot to tell Bob either that or his bike was suddenly ‘run in’. Having all arrived safely at Tooradin it was a unanimous vote that the ride was excellent as was the company having wished Colin and Barry fond farewells and good luck on their up and coming journeys we all went our separate ways. It was also noted that no one was booked for speeding and we lost no one, I guess you put this down to experience as we all were.

Cheers Alan Lindley

Hi all at Two bays

I want to thank ALL the members of our great branch who came to my rescue today ( Wed. ride January 7th ) after my BMW decided to try some off-road trekking.
I looked at the ditch to my left on a right bend...... where did I end up???
I was damaged... sore right wrist and scrapes and bruises... my bike was battered, but could be ridden.
Decided to ride home, so Ron and Sandra said they would stay with me. Thank you so much to two kind and thoughtful people.
The three of us stopped in Tooradin for a rest and realised my bike was leaking oil, so we topped it up at the servo, where most of our group had gathered.
We said our cheerio's, but Ron and Alan (Mr Prez) insisted on staying with me until I reached home.
Thank you... Alan, Ron, Sandra, Ross, Frank, Alan, Bob, Alan, Laurie.... you were all great.
My BMW is being picked up tomorrow (8th) to be assessed at South Melbourne.
The Doc tells me I have tissue swelling in my wrist and it will fix itself.

PLEASE be careful out there

Wednesday 27 August

Only seven die-hards fronted up for today’s ride which took us on a circuitous route around the rain showers to Neerim South, Yarra Junction, Launching Place and Emerald. We terminated the ride with a surprise good will visit to “the Baron’s” house where he is convalescing after harassing the nursing staff of the Monash Medical Centre for a few days.

Actually, there was only one die hard and six pretenders. Frank Ibbott returned from a six day trip to Coffs Harbour late on Tuesday and was raring to try out his new CBF 900 with the Wednesday Mob at 9.30 on Wednesday. What’s the secret, Frank???

HOW TO GET ROUTED BY THE 'BARON'

Lets set the scene imagine the pre- ride talk by the ride leader 'We'll go from here to Lang Lang thru to Poowong cut across to Arrawata and on to Mirboo Nth for morning cuppa from there to the Buln Buln road and to the Robin Hood for lunch...all sounds pretty simple....  but for one fact....THE BARON. Well we made to Arrawata alright and that is were it all went pear shape not that you would know it by The Baron persistence to keep going. Apparently we missed a RIGHT turn any way after a few k's [like twenty] of gravel, dirt, cow sh!! we finally found our selves back at...guess where.........Arrawata. Didn't make Mirboo nth ..or Buln Buln road or the Robin Hood but never the less it was a brilliant ride absolutely great scenery that a lot of people wouldn't have known existed this was evident by the cows scattered as we went by. Finished of with coffee at Tooradin after which Frank went with Gary to pick up a trailer and Gary's bike [trail bike] it decided it had had enough at Bena and just stopped I guess it was tired. Thanks again Mike Shuett [Baron].....Alan Lindley

Wednesday 14th May

the weather was looking great.
So the lucky Two Bays Ulysses riders that were able to go on a ride; all turned up at the Coffee Shop in Baxter, arriving and lining up in front of the shop.
After friendly hand shakes and Greetings and looking at motor bikes and so; Baron (Mike Schuett) announced that he would lead the ride.
He said that we would ride straight up the Baxter Tooradin Road to the South Gippsland HWY, turn right on to it and follow it to the
turn off to Nyora.
From there we followed him around through the hills and bends of Gippsland.
Some of the scenery was very beautiful and it was great riding on such a great day.
We stopped about 11-05 for a brake and to have a drink.
Baron said that we would then ride on down to Phillip Island, so off we went again riding around through the hills and winding roads.
We road into San Remo were the corner marker was standing and pointing for us to go on over the Bridge, we road about a K M and a half, and turn left into the Vietnam War Museum,
Its a little off the road with a gravel road leading in they have space for parking in the yard behind and on the side of the Building.
In the yard there is a Canberra Bomber fuselage which was in the War.
In side they have a display of things to buy, also the office to pay to enter the exhibition.
It cost each of us $5.00 and it was worth every cent, the information and the display is terrific.
There is a Hologram there which explains every thing about the War and what went on and happened
I found this very interesting as I learnt things that I never heard before it was truly a great experience and I will remember it for a long
time.
After seeing the Museum we road back to San Remo and had our lunch (fish and Potato cakes) for me, and some of us sat at the tables and seats on the roof looking over the bay.
Then it was time to head back home some went straight on while some of us stopped at the Tooradin Airport for a drink, from there we went our own way back home.

Thank you Baron (Mike Schuett) for a great day
Doug Lutz

P/ S If you have not seen the Museum it is well worth a Visit.

Wednesday 8th April

''Oh what a beautiful morning'' could be heard from every one at the Baxter shopping centre, us included. Nine members started off on yet another glorious Wednesday ride. Luckily no one had done the previous Sunday ride so I pinched it from the Baron [thanks Mike Schuett]. So on that note there is not much point in telling every body where we went as it was the same as the last report   EXCEPT   that not every one reached the lunch spot suffice to say unless there is a corner marker we don't turn...Alan [President]

Wednesday 5th March

Eleven members assembled at Baxter for the Wednesday ride and we were seen off by Bill and Chris Barton along with Gary Hipwell [I had the distinct feeling that they wanted to come with us but work commitments didn't allow]. The great thing about these rides is that there is no real destination in fact there isn't really a designated leader he gets picked when we start off, in this case it turned out to be me [Alan Lindley], it was also great to see Jack and the Baron there as well. Where are we going ? every one asked well the standard answer is.... it's a mystery [to me included]. Heading to Tooradin taking a fairly new road to the new Pakenham bypass turning off at Lang Lang and winding our way up to Neerim Sth where we had the first coffee break. Jack and the Baron left us here as they exhausted their energy and they returned home .The remainder ones went onto Warragul through to Korumburra for lunch. On the road from Warragul we encountered some road works.. on three bends to be exact that weren't signposted and that caused some consternation I can tell ya.. have since been on to the appropriate authorities. After lunch took the back roads again through Nyora on to the Sth Gippsland Hwy to Tooradin where we went our separate ways home, it was just a little ride of about 250kms but a more pleasant way to spend a day I can't think of. Thanks every for coming look forward to seeing you on the next one.   Alan [pres]

Wednesday 26th February

The ''ride with a difference'' is how I would describe the last Wednesday's ride. Alan Hipworth took us on a ride to the Car and Bike auctions at Altona, now whilst we realise this might not be everyone's cuppa tea it was different. I for one had never been to them so it was something new. Eight bikes left Baxter and again not for everyone but we did some city riding going along Beach road to Station pier and the back way to Todd road and over the Westgate bridge to Altona. The thing that amazed us all is how much people were paying for pieces of bent and twisted metal sometimes beyond recognition. The car part seemed to have more sense attached to it, here some bargains were to be picked up. Finished up at Thompson's road for an ice-cream then made our own way home, once again a member took the initiative to do a ride out of the ordinary, well done Alan......Tailend charlie Alan [pres]

Wednesday 20th February

Puckapunyal Military Museum

Wednesday saw cooler conditions after two days of hot weather.

Ride started at 8.15am from Baxter shops with light rain falling. The hardy intrepid riders, Frank I, Bill B, Gary H and Alan H. In light rain we rode via Berwick, Emerald, to Woori Yallock, Healesville where we picked up visitor Brian Thompson and had a much needed cup of coffee with raisin bread and some animated conversation. The ride to Yea started with vigor, the rain abated after a short comfort stop and lunch. The ride via Trawool and Tallarook saw some good riding via the back way to Puckapunyal.

After the security formalities, we met Glenn Ibbott, Frank’s son, had our lunch and embarked on 2 hours of interesting exhibits of armored vehicles of WW2 and other conflicts from around the world. Those interested studied the technologies and learned a lot. Our admiration for those who fought in these vehicles is not lost on us as National Service Conscripts and bringing home how lucky we all are. To me outstanding collection of world class armored vehicles / the Swedish Tank destroyer and demonstration of amour piercing munitions is frightening to see.

At 2.30 pm started home in light drizzle down M3 Freeway to Broadford where Gary wanted to inspect a car yard  for a vehicle he had located on the net; a nice little diversion. The spirited ride continued to Flowerdale through the valley of a thousand hills, very scenic, to Yarra Glenn and coffee break. Rain coming back around Mt Dandenong to Belgrave, Hallam , and Baxter.

Total 400 kms and home at 6pm.

Another good Wednesday ride. Thanks to all those who ventured forth and “seized the day”

Frank Ibbott.

Wednesday 16 January

I wonder if any one has sat back after a ride to reminisce on events that took place on the ride.

Well having just arrived home from one of Bills jaunts gave me time to ponder on today's fun...It wasn't the longest ride we have ever done but there again it wasn't the shortest either. Eight or nine of us left Baxter and headed towards the Dandenongs via Berwick, Upper Beaconsfield, and coffee stop at Emerald. Now this where the fun started ,,,,,,   we meet the local footpath vigilante. He seemed to have a bee in his bonnet about parking motorcycles on the [his] footpath. After Graham explained things to him he walked off only to return and bump into one the bikes whereupon he complained yet again this time informed us he was going to the police station to report all. So rather than have an uprising with the "WILD HOGS" and the local vigilante we moved our bikes, only to be told by a local shop keeper that bikes park there all the time and that there's never been a  problem, s'pose we caught him on a bad hair day [whoops, he didn't have any]. So some of the more opstropalus of us parked our bikes one to a parking bay each....Moving of towards Monbulk we stop at Olinda for lunch, where one of us needed to use the 'loo'', having finished his business tried to get out, door locked, jammed, no get out ,predicament!!!!!!..I reckon Graham must have been a boy scout in his younger days 'cos some how he managed to dismantle the lock and walk to freedom being a very relieved man in more ways than one. Once again very delightful day great company, great ride, oh! forgot to mention we had two ride leaders today so thanks again Bill Barton and Alan Hipworth...... [Alan pres]
